MP govt inaugurates first Craft Handloom Tourism Village project of India

Hyderabad: Madhya Pradesh government under the initiative of State Tourism Board, Ministry of Textiles has developed “Craft Handloom Tourism Village” in Pranpur, Chanderi at a cost of Rs 7.45 crore. Its main objective is to provide a market for the sale of products while preserving the art of local weavers and craftsmen.
The basic objective of the Craft Handloom Tourism Village project is to develop an attractive center to provide a market to the handloom and handicraft weavers and artisans living in and around the tourist destination, so that the tourists coming here can become aware of the local crafts and weaving arts. And can buy the products made by the villagers as a souvenir.With the aim of making Madhya Pradesh self-reliant, the state government is continuously making efforts to increase employment opportunities.
The priority of the State government is to provide a market while preserving the art of weavers and craftsmen. It not only keeps our traditional arts alive but also contributes to the rural economy.
Pranpur is a village of weavers and craftsmen. It is located about 4 km in the foothills of Chanderi. There is a picturesque place in the distance. The specialty of this village is that most of the families in the village (in 243 houses) are associated with weaving art, whose houses and working handlooms are still being used for two-three generations.
Apart from this, there are more than fifty craftsmen in the village who are involved in crafts of bamboo, wood, stone, jewellery and clay. This is a center of special attraction for tourists.
Under the project, the old unpaved access road of the village has been repaired using local stones. Inside the village, tourists go in their vehicles and get down at a designated place and tour the attractive village.
A parking lot has also been developed here. A cafeteria "Handloom Café" has been constructed especially for the tourists. Public facilities and adequate parking arrangements have also been made available here for men, women and disabled people.
Besides, a garden has been developed for the facilities and entertainment of tourists. In which an amphitheater has been constructed. Here cultural groups of the local community will present cultural programs for the tourists from time to time.
